A cancer diagnosis often brings sudden and significant challenges. Many people are unable to work while undergoing treatment, creating financial hardship.
Southern Cancer Society received $3,300 from Clutha Foundation to support their assistance programme, which provides grocery and petrol vouchers to cancer patients in the Clutha District.
“We are so grateful to Clutha Foundation for their generous grant of $3,300 to support cancer families across the Clutha District,” says Jonet Warhurst, Head of Funding and Partnerships at Cancer Society. “This funding will be used to provide grocery and petrol vouchers to help ease the financial pressures faced by local families affected by cancer, including dedicated support for those in the Lawrence–Tuapeka area.”
One of Cancer Society’s local clients, Ra-ana Gardener, shared: “The Cancer Society has been there for me during my long cancer journey with mental and financial support, information, and support groups. This has smoothed out a few bumps in the pathway.”
Jonet adds, “Support like this from Clutha Foundation ensures we can continue to walk alongside families in our community, offering both practical help and hope during one of the toughest times in their lives.”
