All around the world, tax rebates are used to encourage people to donate more to charities and causes. It’s a powerful way to inspire generosity and shows that private donations are truly valued in helping to build strong, vibrant communities.
In New Zealand the government offers a 33% rebate on eligible donations, up to the level of tax paid. This tax rebate can influence giving in two ways: encouraging larger donations and encouraging the gifting of the rebate itself.
Donate to Clutha Foundation and you can reclaim 33% of what you give through a tax rebate.
It's easy to claim your tax credit, you can either:
Submit copies of your donation receipts electronically throughout the year via your ‘myIR’ account on the IRD website
File the tax credit claim form (IR526) from April of the following year
Forgot to claim tax credits for your past donations? IRD allows claims for up to four years (tax years 2022 to 2025).
