Creating inclusive spaces for play and growth in Stirling

With no existing playground for its 85 students, Stirling School had a clear need for a safe and engaging space that could serve its rural community. Thanks to our generous donors, Clutha Foundation was able to support Friends & Whānau of Stirling School in our 2025-26 Funding Round.  They received $3,000 to build a safe, inclusive playground that promotes physical wellbeing, strengthens motor skills, and builds social development for tamariki.

“Stirling School is a rapidly growing school with a beautiful culture, students from Year 1 to Year 8 all play together,” said Catherine Korteweg, committee member and past Chair of Friends & Whānau of Stirling School.  “This grant tipped us over our funding goal, so we could start signing contracts and get building under way.  We appreciate that Clutha Foundation, as a young and growing fund for our region, recognises the community value that school playgrounds provide.”

The new playground is a wonderful asset for both the school and the wider community, including elements that all age ranges and abilities can enjoy at the same time.
