The Clutha Food Hub

Last year the Clutha Budget Advisory Service took over responsibility for providing for food welfare after the previous provider gave notice.  The foodbank was renamed the Clutha Food Hub.

The goals of the Food Hub are to provide food to those who need it along with financial mentoring, support and referrals to other organisations.  Their vision is for there to be no food poverty in the Clutha District.

Clutha Foundation as part of their last funding round were delighted to be able to provide the Clutha Food Hub $15,000 towards the purchase of new upright commercial freezers to replace ageing chest freezers.  $3,000 of the funding came from the Pannett Family Endowment Fund.

The new freezers will store meat and other frozen goods more efficiently, and the frozen component of each food parcel can now be pre-prepared, making the operation more streamlined.  The Clutha Food Hub plans to expand its services to provide meal packs and access to a kitchen for volunteers to prepare food alongside clients.
